The 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes Vieilles Vignes, from vines planted in 1913, has a forward, vivacious, grapefruit, passion fruit and orange cordial scented bouquet that soars from the glass - much more exuberant than the regular Charmes. The palate is rounded and slightly honeyed on the entry, touches of nutmeg and hazelnut tincturing the citrus fruit, a dash of spice to the finish. I just seek more complexity here and like the regular bottling. There is something a little conservative here, as if the wine does not fully want to let go. That said, it remains a fine Meursault, though this year I prefer the Goutte d'Or and the Genevrières.
