Unwinding in the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, cherries, potpourri and rose petals, the 2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées is medium to full-bodied, supple and vibrant, with excellent concentration, refined tannins and a long, youthfully firm finish. It's a terrific wine, but it will require patience.

The fireworks continue with the 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées, a striking wine that unwinds in the glass with notions of raspberries, cherries, sweet spices, rose petals, loamy soil and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, it's concentrated and tightly wound, its deep core of fruit framed by lively acids and powdery tannins, concluding with a long, mineral finish.

There are three and a half barrels of the spectacular 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées, a stunning young wine that blossoms in the glass with a complex bouquet of wild berries, rose hips, warm spices, sweet soil tones and subtle hints of grilled squab. Medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's layered and concentrated, built around exquisitely refined tannins and an ample core of succulent fruit.

Aromas of wild plums, cassis and ripe cherries mingling with savory bass notes and a touch of new oak in an incipiently complex bouquet introduce the 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées, a medium to full-bodied wine with excellent concentration and an ample chassis of fine but firm, chalky tannins that was among the most reserved in the Barthod cellar when I tasted it. That reserve, however, holds great promise for the future, as this gives every indication of being a superb Fuées in the making.

The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées was reduced to two and a half barrels this year, half the production, due to frost. Yet the quality of this great terroir still exudes from the glass with superb delineation and tensile, shimmering red fruit. The palate has exquisite balance framed by filigree tannin, supremely elegant with great sustain in the mouth. There is half as much but maybe twice as good as Chambolles from other growers. Bon vin and a great accomplishment given the growing season.
