The 2004 vintage’s characteristics perfectly aligned themselves with a handful of white wine-producing vineyards across Burgundy. In the Cote de Beaune, Meursault-Genevrieres repeatedly stood out at numerous growers, as did the Maconnais’s Pouilly-Fuisse La Roche. Domaine Guffens-Heynen’s 2004 Pouilly-Fuisse La Roche is stunning, standing head and shoulders above the estate’s other 2004s. It bursts from the glass with fresh herb-laced, spicy minerals. On the palate, this immensely rich wine boasts a broad, seamless, enormously deep character jam-packed with liquefied minerals, white fruits, and sage. Hugely concentrated and powerful, it has magnificent purity as well as a soaring minerality that dominates its extensive finish. Wow! Anticipated maturity: now-2015+.
