The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fremières is less extroverted than the brilliant Vosne-Romanée Aux Genaivrières, but it's every bit as good. Unwinding in the glass with scents of raspberries, cherries, blood orange and rose petals, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, exhibiting almost crystalline purity of fruit and seamless integration. Concluding with a long, mineral finish, it's a legend in the making.

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fremières is striking, unwinding in the glass with notes of sweet spices, raspberries, peonies and grilled squab that's deeper but also more reserved than the Vosne-Romanée Les Genaivrières that preceded it. Medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's layered and concentrated, with a tightly wound core that's framed by powdery tannins and girdled by bright acids. Long and penetrating, it's my favorite of the communal bottlings this year.

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fremières is superb, and—as is often the case—I would argue that this is the finest of Domaine Leroy's communal bottlings this year. Opening in the glass with exquisite aromas of rose hips, raspberries, warm spices and sweet red fruits, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with racy acids and a long, mineral-driven finish.

Bursting from the glass with an arresting bouquet of rose petals, raspberries, dried flowers and dark chocolate, the 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fremières is medium to full-bodied, satiny and immensely concentrated, its fine tannins are entirely hidden in a deep core of fruit, its finish long, pure and unmistakably mineral. It's quintessentially Chambolle, but this singular vintage is unusually intense, even by Leroy's standards.

Soaring from the glass with exquisite aromas of rose petals, violets, cassis, raspberries and exotic nuances of clove and cinnamon, Leroy's 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fremières is full-bodied, velvety and mutlitmiensional, with incredible energy and concentration, concluding with a long and resonant finish. This is a brilliant wine that entirely confirms the fine impression it made when I last tasted it in spring 2018.
