The 2000 Cotes du Rhone Villages R & R does not have the words Domaine Les Aphillanthes on the label, but indicates it was produced by Daniel Boulle, and is only available in Europe. It exhibits a dark ruby/purple color in addition to copious quantities of black cherry fruit and minerals, and a medium-bodied, tangy, pure finish. It should be consumed over the next 4-5 years. The wine is bottled without fining and filtration. As I wrote last year, this is one of the discoveries of the southern Rhone. Although this is an expensive Cotes du Rhone, it represents a great value because it is comparable to the finest Gigondas and Chateauneuf du Pape. It is a stunningly concentrated, brilliant example from owner Daniel Boulle.
