The 2020 Las Sabias has the same alcohol on the label as the 2019 (16.5% alcohol), but the wine comes through as more elegant and balanced. Perhaps this is because of the different quality of the tannins, which come through as more velvety here and make the wine more approachable in the XXL style of this cuvée. 19,929 bottles produced.

I tasted two vintages of the ungrafted Tinta de Toro selected from different plots of old vines, of which they have more and more. The 2019 Las Sabias comes from a very dry and warm year when the grapes ripened thoroughly, which makes it the most powerful wine here, quite classical, combining new and used barrels for 16 months. It has a full body and abundant grainy tannins and is very powerful, ripe and concentrated with a dry finish. 14,604 bottles produced.

Tasted next to the 2017, the 2018 Las Sabias stole the show. It has ripeness, depth and complexity, and the palate feels very harmonious in the Titán XL style. It's still a baby that needs a little bit of time to polish its tannins, and it should develop for a long time in bottle.

Toro was mostly not touched by the frost that decimated Ribera del Duero in 2017, but the vintage already has bad press. The 2017 Las Sabias was produced with grapes from ungrafted vines that are usually used for the La Cuesta de las Musas, which was not produced this year. It feels unusually elegant and balanced. It's powerful and has fine tannins and ripe flavors. 13,825 bottles produced.

The 2016 Las Sabias is the most powerful of the wines produced here; it's large and generously oaked but in balance, creamy, intense and with good ripeness without being overripe. The palate is intense and reveals abundant, chalky and fine-grained tannins. This vintage has very good freshness, and I think it's going to age nicely in bottle. 14,161 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2018.
