The 2005 Coto Real is the Bodega’s bow to a more modern style. Made up of 80% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, and 10% Garnacha, it spent 16 months in French and American oak. Aromas of pain grille, pencil lead, violets, and blackberry lead to a structured, relatively fruit-forward offering that will benefit from several more years of cellaring. It is a well-made wine but, to this taster, not nearly as interesting as the traditionally made Riojas in this collection.El Coto de Rioja is a widely distributed brand of mostly traditionally styled Rioja that generally offers very good value.Importer: Frederick Wildman & Sons, New York, NY; Tel.
