The high, harsh tannin, combined with excessive amounts of new wood make both the 1994 Pinot Noir Weber Vineyard Reserve and 1994 Pinot Noir Winemaker's Reserve taste hard, excessively dry, and overly structured. Both wines possess sound, deep ruby colors with purple nuances. Both are subdued aromatically, but do offer up earth, new oak, and vague scents of fruit. On the palate, both wines are weighty, with obviously fine raw materials, but the tough tannin, and compressed, compact personalities make evaluation difficult. These wines will both benefit from 2-5 years of cellaring and last for 10-12 years, but I wonder if they are not overly weighted with structure and tannin?Tel. (503) 538-3318
