The 2022 Krone is fascinatingly clear and intense on the refined and chalky nose that reveals smoky lemon juice and zest aromas paired with slate and limestone notes. Round and savory on the palate, this is a still-untamed but generous, rich and elegant Riesling with a fine texture, savory, mineral acidity and a long, intense and structured finish with fine salinity. This is a complex and promising Riesling that was bottled week ago. So, take this note with attention. Tasted at the domaine in September 2023.

The Lorcher Riesling 2021 Krone offers a fascinatingly pure, elegant, intense and aromatic bouquet of crushed (flint and lime) stones intermingled with notes of citrus fruits and, initially, also green pimientos. Round and elegant on the palate, with fine and saline acidity, this is a textured yet highly refined and finessed Riesling with the textural precision of chalk and the finessed acidity of slate. There are fine tannins here as well. After aeration, the chalky features came out more prominently and gave a silky texture with a greenish phenolic grip on the salty finish. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in November 2022.

The 2020 Lorcher Krone Riesling Trocken opens with an intense and complex, very elegant and chalky-fresh bouquet of perfectly ripe Riesling grapes. Lush and silky as well as crystalline on the palate, this is a dense, very complex, finessed and grippy-mineral Krone with a firm, persistently salty and mineral finish. This is an impressive dry Riesling from predominantly 60- to 70+-year-old vines rooting deep in slate soils covering limestone sub-soils. Drink it from a Burgundy glass, in which the wine sits like an open book revealing all about Riesling, chalk and slate. A gorgeous wine with very fine tannins, lingering salinity and dense and juicy, lemony fruit. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted from AP 7 21 in November 2021.

From slate soils covering limestone sub-soils, Eva Fricke's 2019 Lorcher Krone Riesling Trocken is clear and intense in its golden citrus color. It opens with a deep, chalky bouquet with super ripe, intense and elegant golden fruit aromas intertwined with notes of milled chalk. Round and juicy on the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich, round and lush, very elegant and balanced Riesling that seems to sail toward the border to off-dry. The 14% alcohol is remarkably well integrated in the extracted and firm phenolic structure, and the wine shows no signs of bitterness. I got the best result after I kept the open bottle for 18 (!) days, which means: This monolithic Riesling needs a lot of time to develop. I wish I had this Krone in a blind tasting with slate and limestone Rieslings from Alsace grands crus or even the Clos-Ste-Hune. Tasted from AP 7 20 in January 2021.

The 2018 Lorcher Krone Riesling Trocken offers a deep and concentrated lemon bouquet intermixed with chalky notes of crushed stones and salty minerals on the remarkably fine nose. On the palate, this is a dense, lush and intense, very complex and salty-mineral Krone with crystalline acidity, lots of finesse and a frisky character. A gorgeous, highly finessed and tensioned wine with good grip and aging potential. Very digestible (35 milligrams of free SO2). Bottled with 12.5% alcohol. Tasted from AP 7 19 in June 2019.
