The 2008 Sagrantino di Montefalco RC emerges from the glass with sweet herbal notes that meld into a core of expressive fruit. There is plenty of concentration and depth, but also excellent varietal character as well. The Sagrantino is one of the more recent additions to the lineup, and it continues to show improvement. The 2007 Sagrantino di Montefalco bursts from the glass with masses of jammy fruit. This is a decidedly explosive Sagrantino endowed with gorgeous inner perfume. Sweet scents of sage and white flowers add complexity on the opulent finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2019. Brothers Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella make a wide range of wines at Falesco, their family-owned winery on the Umbria/Lazio border. As always, readers will find a number of great values in this lineup. The range includes three additions that have been in the works for the last few years; the Sagrantino, Syrah Tellus and Assisi Rosso, the wine I am personally the most excited about.
