The 2019 Cornas Lieu-Dit Les Eygats features notes of crushed stone and red plums on the nose. In the mouth, it's medium to full-bodied but crisp and firmly structured. Tannic and firm, yet ripe and silky-textured on the finish, it should improve over the next five years or so, then drink well for another 5-8 years after that.

Located higher above the village than many of the appellation's other parcels, the 2018 Cornas Lieu-Dit Les Eygats is a beauty, marrying notes of grilled beef with ripe black cherries and adding sexy touches of vanilla and cedar. Full-bodied, plush and concentrated without being heavy, it finishes long, with a dusting of ripe tannins and crushed stone. This is one Cornas that's ripe enough to drink young (preferably with a rare steak), yet should age well for a decade or more.

Like several other of the Ferraton wines, I had some concerns about the level of astringency in the 2017 Cornas Lieu-Dit Les Eygats. It shows attractive aromas of crushed stones and pencil shavings and ample weight on the palate, but it also has slightly muted fruit and tough, chewy tannins.

Located at 300 meters above sea level, the Les Eygats is among the last of the Cornas vineyards to be harvested. The 2016 Cornas Lieu-Dit Les Eygats features cedary, meaty aromas but also plenty of red raspberry fruit. Medium to full-bodied, it's rich, layered and long, approachable now but capable of aging for a decade or more.

Les Eygats is a superb lieu-dit shared among several growers, and Ferraton's 2015 Cornas Lieu-Dit Les Eygats is a fine example, combining great power and ripeness with hallmark notes of crushed stone, rare/bloody beef, blueberries and black olives. It's full-bodied and richly textured, with an almost creamy mouthfeel and a long, velvety finish.
