The 2010 Finca Coronado is a blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Graciano aged in French oak for 14 months. The nose is rather unruly, with prune-tinged fruit that is a little one-dimensional. The palate is very sweet and candied, although thankfully, it seems nicely balanced and avoids any cloying tendency towards the finish. The 2005 Finca Coronado is a blend of 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Tempranillo, 20% Syrah, and the balance Merlot and Petit Verdot sourced from young vines. The wine was aged for 14 months in French oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Purple-colored, it has slightly baked aromas as well as assorted black fruits. A top-notch offering from this nearly forgotten, vast viticultural region, this 1,000-case cuvee is a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, and Syrah along with small quantities of Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Graciano. Its inky/ruby/purple color is accompanied by smoky, creme de cassis-like aromas presented in a full-bodied, fleshy, modern, international style. Consume this reasonably priced Spanish red over the next 5-6 years.
