Deep sweet-tart fruit, smoke and spices enliven the nose of this bright, mid-weight Sierra Foothills wine. Cedar accents the cherry fruit, and the chewy mouthfeel has good texture. Woody tannins come on a bit strong on the finish. Best cellared for a couple of years, this is a good case for the future of Syrah in them thar’ hills.——W.E.(11/1/2001)—— 88
