The 2001 Vin Santo del Chianti Rufina (375ml) opens to a dark amber color with deep brown highlights. The bouquet opens to candied fruit, roasted chestnut, brown sugar, caramel and raw honey. But as the wine evolves in the glass, it also gives off less attractive tones of wet wood or old barrel. I tasted from two bottles with consistent results.
