This is very muscular and broad-shouldered with plenty of strawberry and flower aromas with some cedar and dried flower character. Full and very layered with flexing tannins and lots going on in the finish. Lightly spicy with cloves to the pretty ripe fruit. The most opulent wine of Gagliardo but shows tension. Needs five or six years to come around. Best after 2029.

Gorgeous perfumes that jump out of the glass with fresh roses and sliced strawberries. Medium- to full-bodied with very well integrated tannins that give a chewy yet cut-velvet texture. Best after 2027.

The Gianni Gagliardo 2018 Barolo Lazzarito Vigna Preve (with 2,224 bottles and 150 magnums made) shows medium-dark intensity with blackcurrant and plum. There is nice tart freshness in this Nebbiolo that helps to give lift and greater intensity to the bouquet. Its aromas are delivered with linear sharpness. This wine is poised for graceful aging thanks to that acidity.

This is my favorite Barolo of the bunch from Gianni Galgliardo, thanks to a mineral sharpness that props up and gives structure and texture to the fruit, all of which comes from Serralunga d'Alba. Many of these other expressions tasted quite similar, but the 2017 Barolo Lazzarito Vigna Preve stands apart. It is sharp and upright, giving you the sense it will last longer too. This is a very nice offering of 2,322 bottles.

The Gianni Gagliardo 2016 Barolo Lazzarito Vigna Preve shows dark and saturated fruit with big structure and power at the back. In a nutshell, this wine mirrors all the basic ideals of Serralunga d'Alba. The wine delivers volume and texture, with plenty of dried cherry, blackberry, licorice, spice and tar. There's that hint of white chocolate again that I found in some of the other Baroli from the Gagliardo family. Exactly 2,376 bottles exist.
