The 2006 Barrica is a blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah aged for 9 months in new French, Spanish, and American oak. Notions of pain grille, pencil lead, pepper, violets, and assorted black and blue fruits inform the nose of a dense, layered, ripe, complex offering that merits 1-2 years of additional cellaring. It offer a drinking window extending from 2012 to 2018.
Grandes Vinos y Vinedos is a large cooperative in the DO of Carinena, a region which I visited in 2011. Once neglected, it is now producing numerous excellent value priced wines from the old vines that are being revitalized. The entry-level wines go by the Beso de Vino designation.
Importer: Steve Miles Selections, Denver, CO; Tel: (303) 495-3811 for the Corona del Aragon and Beso de Vino wines; World Wineries, Tampa, FL for the Don Vinico wines.
