The 2009 Corona del Aragon Parcela Vilanueva is made up of 75% Garnacha and 25% Carinena aged for 10 months in new French oak. Violets, underbrush, spice box, and black cherry aromas are followed by a supple, concentrated, nicely proportioned red that may evolve for 1-2 years in the bottle. However, this tasty effort can be approached now and over the next 5-6 years.
Grandes Vinos y Vinedos is a large cooperative in the DO of Carinena, a region which I visited in 2011. Once neglected, it is now producing numerous excellent value priced wines from the old vines that are being revitalized. The entry-level wines go by the Beso de Vino designation.
