Rustic, bloody and a little bit meaty, the 2019 Rocky Gully Shiraz has savory spice, licorice and black fruit to boot. There is charm here; it sits on the back palate and gives a pleasurable, textural little caress through the finish. This is nicely done, although not what I would call "typical." Difficult to define... but perhaps it has just become clear: the rusticity and texture make more sense when viewed through a Nebbiolo lens. With this understanding comes florals, rocks, tar and earth. Interesting.
