Offers blackberry and cherry character on the nose and palate, with notes of vanilla cream. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and dark chocolate and light vanilla flavors that follow through to the soft-textured finish. Not a lot of Syrah character. Best after 2010. 2,000 cases made. -JS

This wine just doesn’t have it. It mixes tobacco and green bean aromas and the result is something akin to clove. Which doesn’t sound bad, but is it Syrah? The mouth features pickled fruit and the finish tosses up some burnt coffee. Even the feel is hard and unfriendly. —M.S.——M.S.(12/31/2002)—— 81
