The 2007 Furmint Selection Milli represents the continuation of a series of one-barrel lots from fruit not utilized for the Ausbruch Turner (and only lightly botrytized), to be aged for twenty months in older barrique, and in this instance named in honor of Schrock’s great aunt. Aromas of spiced quince and pear, a sweet and musky amalgam of gardenia and narcissus floral perfumes lead to a creamy, rich palate in which quince preserve is laced with lime zest and white pepper, which offer nice contrast to the wine’s sweetness. Nut brittle notes in the finish suggest a transition into caramelized flavors as this matures (much as would be the case with a nobly sweet Ausbruch) but time will tell. Once again, Schrock has rendered an alluring and fascinating testimony to her forbears, and to the potential of Furmint in Rust. Heidi Schrock’s dry white collection from 2007 reflects the precocity and incipient botrytis of the vintage in the wines’ ripeness and amplitude, yet there is a sense of minerality and above all a leavening of fresh fruit acids that her lush, at times heady 2006s lacked. “From the 10th of September, we had gorgeous weather,” she relates, “and we brought everything in quickly.”Importer: Terry Theise Estate Selections, imported by Michael Skurnik Wines, Inc., Syosset, NY; tel.
