From the oldest documented site in the Kraichgau (1238) and cultivated on poor calcareous marl with stubby sandstone and very little iron, the Hilsbach 2018 Eichelberg Pinot Blanc GG opens with a clear, deep and coolish, spicy and grapefruit-bitter bouquet that indicates purity but also a full-bodied and complex Pinot. Silky, refined and elegant on the palate, this is a rich and intense but also vivacious and salty-finishing Eichelberg with tension and stimulating finesse. Displaying fine tannins and lingering salinity, this is an impressive Pinot Blanc from a cru that is characterized by a slope of 50% at 320 meters in altitude and its southern exposure embedded in forest. This was vinified for eight months in wooden barrels. 13% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted in June 2022.
