Deep garnet-purple in color, 2008 Private Cellar Shiraz Mourvedre has a pronounced earthy / meaty nose over a core of warm black cherries, blackberries and mulberries plus wilted roses, chocolate and allspice. The palate is medium to full bodied and packed with dense flavor layers, well supported by crisp acid and a high level of exquisitely fine-grained tannins, finishing very long and elegant. Give it another 2 years in bottle for the flavors to develop and fan-out and drink this one 2013 to 2022+. Hewitson does not currently have a USA importer.

This wine is produced from Mourvedre vines planted in 1853, said to be the oldest Mourvedre vines in the world. It provides intense black cherry, black plum and damp loam aromas with nuances of tar, licorice, chocolate, Chinese dried plums and hung meat. Full bodied with a medium to firm level of finely grained tannins, it is richly fruited with a nice savory edge and a very long finish.
