Produced from fruit off what is claimed to be the oldest Mourvedre vineyard in the world (planted in 1853), 2008 Old Garden Mourvedre presents a medium garnet-purple color and an intense nose of baked fruits of the forest, blueberry pie filling and dried mulberries over notes of underbrush, tar and stewed Ceylon tea. Full bodied, it offers restrained, earthy and ripe berry flavors with a medium level of velvety tannins and high acidity. The finish is long with some vanilla and spice box flavors coming through. Approachable now, it should improve with another year or two in bottle and drink to 2020+. Hewitson does not currently have a USA importer.
