The I Capitani 2018 Taurasi Bosco Faiano shows a ruby color with aromas of dried cherry skin and baked plum, but it also reveals dark spice and campfire ash. The fruit feels slightly tired, but the wine perks up quite a bit in the palate, thanks to those tight tannins and its full-bodied delivery. It sees a long 30 days of skin-maceration time. Production is 10,000 bottles.

Ashy and oak-heavy, the I Capitani 2014 Taurasi Bosco Faiano shows lots of dark extraction with notes of wild cherry and dried raspberry. In the past, this late release has shown lots of luscious fruit and depth, but this vintage is a bit thinner and easygoing in this release of 10,000 bottles. Fruit is sourced from 20-year-old vines planted at a cool 450 meters above sea level.

The 2013 Taurasi Bosco Faiano is very nice: softly contoured and round. The aromas are open and immediate with lots of soft and luscious fruit and good depth. You also get spice, leather and tobacco notes. The wine's overall feel is more international or contemporary with plenty of softness and succulence on the close. Some 8,000 bottles were made.

Aglianico is a natural comfort zone for this estate. The I Capitani 2012 Taurasi Bosco Faiano shows Christmas spice and nutmeg with dark and ripe fruit from a hot vintage. This wine is abundant and generous on all the senses, with lavish, full-bodied appeal. This estate holds an excellent track record with Taurasi, although this vintage is slightly sweet and less nuanced compared to cooler years. Some 8,000 bottles were released.

The 2010 Taurasi Bosco Faiano is a terrific red wine that speaks highly of the Aglianico grape and the beautifully unique wine zone of Irpinia in Campania. The bouquet is intense, bold and contemporary with opulent fruit flavors followed by tar, smoke, grilled herb, exotic spice and cinnamon stick. The oak element is evident (this wine is aged in barrel for two years), but already shows promising integration. The tannins are soft and slightly sweet.
