Il Grappolo's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino comes across as generously plump, chewy and rich. The wine is packed tight with pretty aromas of bursting cherry, blackberry, cassis, spice and dark leather. There is a considerable amount of the proverbial baby fat that will require extra years of bottling aging for more sophisticated contours. That said, this will always be a fruit-driven Brunello with ripe vitality and sweet berry endnotes. The wine is aged in various oak vessels (of ranging sizes) and those wood flavors come through strongest on the palate.
