The 2013 Lorenzo & Isabelle is a blend of 50% Sangiovese, 45% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. This is the second release of the IGT Toscana wine, with the first release happening a decade ago. Despite the hearty nature of the French grapes involved in this blend, the Sangiovese component clearly takes center stage in terms of appearance and, to a good extent, on the bouquet. The wine opens to a dark garnet color and shows bright aromas of dark cherry and plum. The aromas veer closer to red or purple fruit tones instead of black fruit characteristics. Mild aromas of delicate spice and tobacco are achieved, thanks to 34 months of aging in large oak casks. On the close, there is a point of cherry sourness that is a little abrupt in my view, and I'm not confident that it will ever iron itself out. Only 6,400 bottles were produced.
