The 2013 Petite Sirah looks to be another killer vintage of this cuvee. First made in 2003, this 2013 offers an inky purple color to go with deep, decadent dark fruits, full-bodied richness and depth, and plenty of fine tannin. It’s a beauty to drink over the coming decade or so.

Always one of my favorite Petite Sirahs, Jaffurs’ 2012 Petite Sirah Thompson Vineyard doesn’t disappoint. Its inky purple color is followed by notions of plum, violets, tar and asphalt, and it offers full-bodied richness, loads of sweet fruit and no hard edges. Aged 10 months in 15% new American oak, with the balance a mix of neutral French and American barrels, enjoy this beauty over the coming 4-5 years, although I suspect it will evolve longer.

One of the most elegant Petite Sirahs out, the 2011 Jaffurs Petite Sirah Thompson Vineyard is a knockout effort that offers up thrilling aromas of smoky black and red raspberries, tar, licorice, mineral, and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, tannic, and structured, yet also seamless and silky, with loads of depth and richness, it needs 2-3 years of bottle age, and will have 15+ years of total longevity.

This is an excellent Petite Sirah that’s robust and high in alcohol, and rich, with flamboyant cherry jam, red currant, white chocolate, persimmon and spice flavors. Almost like Port on the palate, it’s a great wine to sip and savor.
