A terrific rendition of the deep and soulful expression of syrah from Victoria's Great Western district, this has a dark fruited nose with fragrant spicy appeal. Deeply ripe and nicely complimented with fragrant oak, there's a herbal edge here that has built around the inclusion of plenty of whole bunches in fermentation. The palate is smooth, even and sturdy, not at all aggressive in the tannin department. Acidity is measured and there's a deep-seated resolve that speaks of mature vines and a good season. There are hints of salted liquorice, a core of plum fruit coated in dark chocolate and dark cherry to close. Superb wine. Drink in 2020.
