The 2008 Red Wine, a blend of predominantly Merlot along with some Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. It displays a fruity nose, pleasant flavors, but on the palate it comes off as slightly too lean. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. Januik’s reserve is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. Sourced from Champoux and Weinbau, just three barrels were made. The fruit is deeply flavored with black cherry and cassis, and the tannins seem darker, earthier, toastier and overall fuller than any of the other excellent Januik reds. The 2007 Red Wine, the majority of which is Merlot, gives up a nose of cedar, spicy red fruits, cassis, and black currant. On the palate it is medium-bodied, displays some elegance, and has plenty of immediate appeal. Drink it over the next 6 years.
