The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Pucelle exhibits aromas of white flowers and citrus blossom mingled with almond paste and Myer lemon. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and vibrant, it's an elegant, fine-boned Pucelle in this rich vintage.

Aromas of orange oil, lemon zest, green pear and freshly baked bread introduce the 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Pucelle, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping wine that's, as usual, the more textural and gourmand of Chartron's two emblematic clos. Broad but precise, it has turned out well.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Pucelle displays a lovely bouquet of fresh peach, yellow orchard fruit, beeswax and white flowers. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and broad shouldered, with lovely depth at the core, fresh acids and a long, expansive finish. It's an especially complete wine this year. Chartron will also be releasing a small barrel selection as a "Cuvée Centennaire" to commemorate the acquisition of this clos in 1917.

The 2016 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Pucelle has a more austere nose than the Folatières, more stony and earthier in style, a bit aloof, but it begins to open with gusto with aeration. The palate is tensile and saline, very focused and intense with orange rind and sour lemon notes driving this forward. I love the energy and breeding of this premier cru that just has a sense of swagger about it.
