The 2020 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Combes Au Sud is cool and racy, mingling scents of pear with aromas of clear honey, white flowers and buttery pastry. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with lively acids and a saline finish, this young-vine cuvée is going from strength to strength.

A standout in the range this year is the 2019 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Combes Au Sud, a medium to full-bodied, ample but incisive wine evocative of pear, hazelnuts, orange oil and freshly baked bread. Layered and mineral, it concludes with a long, saline finish. This parcel was planted less than a decade ago, but that doesn't appear to have held it back in 2019.

The 2018 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Combes Au Sud has turned out very nicely, wafting from the glass with scents of white flowers, crisp orchard fruit and almond paste. Medium-bodied, lively and charming, with a seamless, nicely balanced profile and chalky grip on the finish, it will offer a broad drinking window.

Aromas of pear, fresh apricot and Meyer lemon, framed by a deft touch of oak, introduce the 2017 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Combes Au Sud, a medium to full-bodied wine that's gourmand and enveloping, with a concentrated core of fruit and a lively, saline finish. The vines here are comparatively young and this is one of the more front-loaded wines in the cellar.

The 2015 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Combes Au Sud comes from young vines that were planted in 2011 and 2012 that are located just under les Charmois. Here there is a pleasant reduction on the nose, fortunately not so strong that it impedes terroir expression. The palate is well balanced with a lightly honeyed texture on the entry that becomes more linear towards its latter half. I discern more complexity on the Champlot at the moment as this dips a little early before the finish line. Not bad, although I prefer the 2015 that I tasted last year at the domaine.
