Closed in a screwcap bottle, the Jermann 2017 Pinot Nero Red Angel on the Moonlight shows a slimmed-down and elegant physique but leaves a lasting impression, especially in terms of the purity and punchy intensity of its aromas. Wild cherry, rose, bitter almond, candied orange peel and pressed violet lift from the bouquet. This is a delicate and graceful edition to enjoy with a typical stewed rabbit from Friuli.

This is another terrific value buy from northeast Italy. The 2015 Pinot Nero Red Angel on the Moonlight (in a screwcap bottle) sings at a loud volume with clear notes of wild berry, fresh blueberry, rose and tangy blood orange. This is a vibrant and radiant expression of the Burgundian grape from a warm vintage. It shows extra aromatic intensity as a result. The wine is partially fermented in stainless steel and partially in barrel. It ages in 300-liter French oak for 12 months. Despite its aging regime, this wine is all about the strength and power of its primary fruit. Some 35,000 bottles were made.

The 2014 Pinot Nero Red Angel on the Moonlight opens to a dark ruby color and a compact, mid-weight approach. The bouquet offers bright aromas of wild berry, pressed violets and dried rose hip. The varietal purity is impressive despite the less focused characteristics of this challenging vintage. Despite a difficult growing season, those Pinot Nero aromas stand tall and proud.

The 2012 Red Angel on the Moonlight (in a screw cap bottle) is a beautifully tonic and fresh expression of Pinot Nero. It offers a silky and smooth texture that is enhanced by attractive tones of wild berry, blue flower and sweet almond. The overall effect is truly outstanding and Jermann has once again shown a deft hand with the difficult Pinot Nero grape. The mouthfeel is feather light and enormously silky. This is a very elegant red wine from Northeast Italy.
