The Jermann 2017 Vintage Tunina (in a screwcap bottle) is a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia and Picolit. The wine is luminous and bright with citrus, green apple, honeydew melon, spring flower and dried jasmine. There's a lot happening on the bouquet, and the finish is steely tight and sharp. This is a fleshy but angular white wine with pretty mineral tones that you should save for a platter of raw shellfish.

This white blend enjoys one of the most popular and heartfelt followings in the varied and beautiful world of vino Italiano. The 2016 Vintage Tunina is a blend of 25% Chardonnay, 25% Sauvignon Blanc, 22% Ribolla Gialla, 23% Malvasia and 5% Picolit. Despite the complexity of the blend, each variety shows its distinct personality with varying degrees of intensity. For example, there is no mistaking the radiant fragrances of the Sauvignon Blanc and the floral layers of the Malvasia. The Chardonnay gives the wine its textual fiber and core weight. The two indigenous grapes, Ribolla Gialla and Picolit, add unmistakable territory-specific personality with lush Mediterranean fruits. Fermentation is kicked off with indigenous yeast in stainless steel. Once 5% or 6% alcohol is achieved, one-quarter of the must is moved to Slavonian oak casks, where it completes fermentation. The wine then rests in oak for 11 months. Production is 69,000-bottles strong.

The 2014 Vintage Tunina is a sophisticated blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana and Picolit. The blend is carefully considered to give the wine all the attributes you look for in an important white wine. The bouquet is bright and forthcoming with graceful aromas of summer peach, quince, honey and a touch of spicy saffron. The mouthfeel is tonic and streamlined with drying mineral nuances on the finish. This wine should take on more volume and depth as it moves forward over the next 5 years.

I really loved the 2012 Vintage Tunina. This blend of Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana and Picolit only sees stainless steel and is packaged in a screw cap bottle. It is released two years after the harvest despite this fresh and immediate approach. The wine shows budding complexity that becomes more apparent as it opens in the glass. This versatile expression shows bright fruit intermingled with mineral, smoke and ash. This is a terrific Italian wine to drink with gusto. The price point is the only negative aspect I see.

The 2011 Vintage Tunina is a blend of Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana and Picolit that shows impressive density and integrity. The wine feels silky smooth and pleasurable on the palate, imparting stone fruit, preserved lemon and sun-ripened Golden Delicious apple. The fruit characteristics are exceptionally well presented and the wine offers enough heft on the close to pair with vegetable pasta dishes or asparagus risotto. Drink: 2014-2018. One of the great pioneers of Friuli wine, Silvio Jermann and his family continue to shake things up in the wider world of vino italiano.
