In a word: excellent. This 2022 Watervale Riesling has soapstone, lavender, lime flesh, pumice stone phenolics and very fine, curvy acidity. It sits well in the mouth, and it lingers through into a long finish. It's incredible value for the money from one of the shining star producers in the region, going from strength to strength under the young/fresh leadership of the third-generation Barry brothers (Sam, in commercial, Tom, winemaker). It won a trophy at the QLD Wine Show 2022.

Where the 2020 Watervale Riesling is rich and powerful, this 2021 Watervale Riesling is totally in line with the cool and excellent season that was 2021. Mineral, cohesive, harmonious, long and complex, this punches way above its weight as a value wine (circa $20-25AUD) and shows the concentration and succulence of Clare Valley hand in glove with the taut, citrus acidity. Smart plus.

The 2020 Watervale Riesling is showing the season on the nose: rich, textural layers of beeswax, brine and lawn clippings. Is the mouth, the wine is savory and powerful, with a jet stream of intense acidity that throttles through the fruit. Very good, as usual for this cuvée.
