Like the other wines I tasted under the Pertaringa range, the 2018 Pertaringa Undercover Shiraz keeps the new oak component in check (15% in this wine), allowing the fruit to take center stage. There's a slightly charred nose, but with a bit of air, hints of espresso, menthol, black olive and plums emerge, while the medium to full-bodied palate is smooth and supple from start to finish. It doesn't have the charm of the Pinot Noir, but it's a gutsier, more potent and concentrated wine, capable of drinking well for 5–7 years.
