Moscato is the bread and butter grape for Giuliano Morando, just as for other producers in Castiglione Tinella near Asti, but he also finds the time to make an excellent Barbera d’Asti as well. The 2001 Barbera d’Asti Zunchetto, with a warm, powerful, and expansive nose of plum fruit, mint, cloves, and cedar, is rich and full on the palate but fine-grained, classy, and elegant despite its important size and depth. Drink: 2005-2009.
