A blend of equal parts Friulano and Ribolla Gialla, the Tunella 2018 Friuli Colli Orientali Biancosesto is my favorite wine in this group of new releases, this one representing about 30,000 bottles. Together these two grapes offer brightness and intensity with a pretty range of aromas that spans from fresh peach, to sweet almond and fleshy pear. The wine spreads over the palate with a mid-weight texture and lots of zesty citrus on the close, a great partner to a spinach and ricotta pie.

The 2016 Friuli Colli Orientali Biancosesto is a blend of Friulano and Ribolla Gialla in equal parts. The wine is fermented and aged in oak. I've always nurtured a particular admiration for this wine, first, because it so authentically represents the native grapes of Friuli, and second, because it is a true delight to drink. This vintage is especially tonic and vibrant, with aromas of honeysuckle, apple and pear. The wine shows a lean to mid-weight style that leans toward the more consistent and rich side of the spectrum. Production is generous at 30,000 bottles made.

Made with Friulano and Ribolla Gialla, the 2013 Friuli Colli Orientali Biancosesto shows a beautiful sense of intensity and balance. Those may sound like two polar opposites, but this wine bridges the gap between power and grace in a seamless manner. The bouquet peels off to reveal honeydew melon, peach, talc powder and chopped pine nut. This beautiful white wine from Northeast Italy really stands out in terms of mouthfeel. The texture is creamy, long and rich.

The 2012 Friuli Colli Orientali Biancosesto is a wine that I choose often when I see it at winebars and restaurants. The blend is 50-50 Friulano and Ribolla Gialla and I love the way that Biancosesto transports you to its territory of origin. These two grapes, both indigenous of Friuli, offer the yellow rose and stone fruit aromas that are so commonly found in the white wines of this corner of northeast Italy.
