Lanciola’s lovely 2002 Pinot Nero Riccionero is a pleasant surprise. It is a delicate, medium-bodied effort with notes of red cherries, menthol and minerals. Made in a very ripe style, it offers excellent overall balance, with no hard edges, quite a feat in this difficult vintage. Its advancing color suggests it won’t be especially long-lived, but it will provide enjoyable drinking over the next three to four years. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2011.At press time the estate was in the process of changing importer.
