Made from 100% Roussanne, the 2014 Crozes Hermitage Blanc Clos des Grives goes through malolactic fermentation and is brought up all in new, once- and twice-used barrels. It has a gorgeous nose of orange blossom, honey and ripe white peach, with a hint of barrique, medium to full-bodied richness and a great finish. It’s beautiful today, but will evolve nicely for 5-7 years.

The 2013 Crozes Hermitage Blanc Clos des Grives has a similar light color to the 2014, yet offers a more mineral and honeyed style. Notes of peach, wood smoke, stone fruits and honeycomb all emerge from this ripe, juicy, lively white that’s drinking beautifully today.

The 2005 Crozes Hermitage Blanc Clos des Grives is still fresh and lively, with a certain umami-like quality in its citron, saffron, caramelized lemons and smoky aromas and flavors. Still lively and fresh on the palate, with bright acidity and plenty of texture, it shows how well this cuvée ages. I don’t see any upside to holding bottles, but I suspect it will continue drinking nicely for at least 2-3 years.

The more seriously-endowed, barrique-aged 1999 Crozes-Hermitage Clos des Grives blanc is a blend of 50% Roussanne and 50% Marsanne. A big, rich, textured, honeyed wine with smoky new oak as well as gobs of fruit, and additional glycerin and thickness, it should drink well for 4-5 years.
