A 50-50 Grenache-Syrah blend aged in oak, the medium to full-bodied 2017 Vacqueyras Cuvee le Pilon is toasty and cedary at the moment, marked by drying wood tannins, while the subdued cherry fruit remains in the background yet seems ripe and supple. Give it a couple of years to come together, as it will remain in oak for around 18 months in total prior to bottling.

This densely colored, tannic, restrained blend of equal parts Grenache and Syrah, the 2009 Vacqueyras Le Pilon reveals a close to the vest style, but lots of concentration and intensity. It will benefit from several years of cellaring and last 8-10 years. No known American importer.

A blend of equal parts Grenache and Syrah aged 12 months in barrel, the 2007 Vacqueyras Cuvee Le Pilon has a dense purple color and a big, ripe nose of blackberries, meat juices, lavender, pepper, and some truffle. Cutting a broad swath across the palate, this deep, sensationally layered wine displays full-bodied richness in addition to superb purity. It is a great example of Vacqueyras that can be drunk now or cellared for 5-6 years.
