The 2019 Cornas les Barcillants is well made, but it's a bit ordinary. There's ample red and black fruit, modest concentration and decent length, but this medium to full-bodied wine doesn't particularly stand out in a vintage like this. It's still very good wine, just not up to the extremely high level of the competition.

This has an enticing feel. Ripe red currant and dark cherry fruit is lightly steeped with anise and mesquite notes, while hints of savory, bramble and olive hang in the background.
