Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley features bold notes of warm cassis, blackberry pie and redcurrant jelly with touches of bay leaves, mossy tree bark and menthol plus a hint of crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a firm, rugged texture and oodles of freshness lifting the generous fruit to a long finish. 16,258 cases were made.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley was aged for 18 months in French and American oak (32% new) and contains 5% Petite Sirah. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps boldly forth with cedar and redcurrant scents over a cassis and black raspberry core with hints of bay leaves and lavender. Medium to full-bodied, firm and chewy, it has a lively line and great intensity, finishing with an herbal lift. 14,000 cases produced.

The bigger, richer 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petite Sirah aged 16 months in 50% new French and American casks. This is a bigger wine and close to 2% higher in alcohol at 15.5%. There are 11,000 cases of this big, full-bodied, boisterous Cabernet Sauvignon that has a dense ruby/purple color, notes of underbrush, forest floor, tobacco leaf and oodles of blackcurrants and black cherries, with a touch of woodsmoke. The full-bodied wine hits the palate with a cascade of glycerin, fruit and purity. This is a beauty – dense, rich, and structured, but capable of lasting 20 or more years.

The outstanding 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is slightly more expensive, but a beauty. It has some hefty alcohol at 14.8%, and spends 14 months in a combination of French, American and Hungarian small casks. More earthy and tannic than its Sonoma cousin, but rich, extracted, dark ruby/purple, with loads of cassis, earth, spice box and cedar wood, this is a rich, classic Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that’s made from a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petite Sirah. It should drink well for 10-15 years.
