The 2007 Cabernet Reserva, from 17-year-old vines planted at 700 meters altitude, sees malolactic in barrel and is aged for 20-months in new French oak. It has a ripe, mulberry, liquorice and soy tinged-bouquet with fine delineation, although it demands coaxing. The palate is medium-bodied, with a chalky entry, touches of white pepper, and a crisp blackberry and pain grille finish. It perhaps lacks a little length, but it is clean and natural. Drink 2013-2017.
Although I was most taken by Loxarel’s cavas, they produce an interesting range of dry whites and reds, predominantly named after Greek gods and representing outstanding value.
