The NV Le Prisonnier is one of the most impressive reds I tasted this year from Northern Italy. Red cherries, violets, minerals, graphite, flowers, licorice, new leather and subtle French oak are some of the nuances that emerge from this textured, vivid wine. The wine packs a surprising level of punch all the way to the potent finish. Le Prisonnier is a blend of 40% Petit Rouge, 35% Cornalin, 5% Mayolet and 20% Fumin. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020. Importer: Small Vineyards, Seattle, WA; tel. (206) 933-6767
