Bursting with aromas of apples, pear, oatmeal and white flowers, Leroux's 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières-Dessous is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and textural, with a ripe core of fruit, succulent acids and a chalky finish. It's more gourmand and extroverted than the Genevrières-Dessus that Leroux bottles separately for that reason.

The 2016 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières Dessous comes from a hectare of vines. It has a crisp, well-defined, quite nutty bouquet with hints of nutmeg and smoke developing with aeration. The palate is well balanced with quite an intense opening. This is quite a powerful Genevrières and though it lacks the persistence and delineation of a great vintage, there is a sense of depth and breeding. This is one to watch.

The 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières Dessous has a linear, very focused, light marine influenced bouquet, hints of praline developing with time. The palate is very well balanced with impressive volume, lovely hazelnut and white chocolate notes, with quite a powerful and intense finish. This is one of Leroux’s top contributions to the vintage – killer Meursault!
