The 2012 Sauvignon Blanc is from Tupungato and sees a light aging in French oak. The nose is primal and uncomplicated and does not really get to grips with the grape variety. The palate is simple with light apple and pear notes, although it needs more delineation on the finish. Drink now. Mapema is a personal project of Mariano di Paolo, winemaker at Rutini. He told me that he has bought land in Los Arboles to make it fully independent, although he has to wait for the drilling restrictions to be lifted in order to plant the vines that are busying growing in the nursery! These were acceptable wines, yet I think that the talented Mariano will truly show his class once he has sorted out his own vineyard.Importer: Vine Connections, Sausalito, CA; tel. (415) 332-8466
