An ample production of 25,000 bottles, the 2018 Barolo del Comune di Barolo represents a blend of fruit from various sites all within an elevation of between 300 and 400 meters above sea level. The wine opens to aromas of wild rose, cassis, camphor ash and garden soil. It offers an elegant presentation to the palate with dry, polished tannins that render a more accessible overall approach.

The Marchesi di Barolo 2017 Barolo del Comune di Barolo shows a classic Barolo profile indeed. However, it is a little heavy on the spice and toast after its 22 months in both small French oak and Slavonian casks. The wood adds ample sweetness to this wine with nutmeg, clove and cinnamon. In the end, it dries it out a bit, especially in a vintage as hot and dry as this one. I'd definitely recommend this for near-term drinking before that fruit fades out of the picture completely. This has nice depth to the cherry, plum and floral flavors, with rich texture and a dense structure.
