Right out of the glass, this wine broadcasts classic Viognier scents of citrus blossom, citrus rind and, well, citrus fruit. It’s forward and expressive, a bit on the sweet and sugary side, but that goes a long way to cut the bitterness that many Viogniers have in the finish. Here is an interesting take on Viognier, relatively low in alcohol (13%) but quite sweet, at almost 2% residual sugar. The sweetness takes away a fair amount of the interesting citrus character of the grape, and seems to dumb it down a bit, but it might fit in well with spicy Asian dishes.——P.G.(12/1/2007)—— 86
