The 2005 SILVER COLLECTION is an obvious step up on the Classic reviewed here. It is a blend of Cinsault (40%), Grenache (30%), Cabernet Sauvignon (15%) and Mourvedre (15%). It is light in the mid-palate, without much depth or flesh, but it has a focus that the Classic does not and a bit more structure. It is very tasty, if a bit short and a bit lacking in concentration. It should hold a few years, but will probably be better for current consumption. There were about 30,000 bottles produced. Drink now-2012. Massaya is run and owned by Lebanon’s Sami and Ramzi Ghosn, with participation by the owners of Chateaus Vieux Telegraphe and Bellefont-Belcier in France. Massaya’s first vintage was 1998. Its first Gold Reserve was in 1999. The winery began by making “Arak,” the Lebanese spirit, in a light blue bottle; hence the name “Massaya,” meaning “Twilight.” The winery today makes about 250,000 bottles a year, of which about 150,000 are the entry level “Classic.”Importer: Winebow, Inc., Montvale, N.J.; tel: (201) 445-0620
