The estate’s 2004 Valpolicella Classico Superiore is a pretty wine with plummy, dark fruit, herbs and black pepper. This medium-bodied, simple Valpolicella is also an excellent value. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2009. The Mazzi family makes rich, sleek wines with the services of consulting oenologist Paolo Caciorgna. Along with the enviable Quintarelli, Mazzi is one of a handful of superstars toiling in the vineyards of Valpolicello. This 1991 is an extremely delicate wine that requires a degree of introspection. The color is a feeble light ruby, but the nose offers up subtle yet focused scents of roasted herbs, nuts, and sweet red fruits. Extremely well-balanced, with a lusciousness and subtlety, this medium-bodied, finesse-styled wine should be drunk over the next 2-4 years.
